The Philadelphia Phillies are close to securing their first trip to the postseason in 10 years.
After defeating Sandy Alcantara and the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, they are 79-62, nine games behind the division-leading New York Mets but comfortably in possession of one of the National League’s Wild Card spots.
Last night’s win came thanks to a huge start by one of the second half’s unsung heroes: Bailey Falter.
In this case, we should say: Bailey doesn’t Falter.
“That is another solid, solid start for Bailey Falter. Since July 1 he has limited his opponents to three runs or less in all but one of his nine starts. In that span: 48.2 IP, 3.55 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 7 BB, 46 K. He has been invaluable down the stretch. Huge for the Phillies staff,” Alex Carr of Phillies SI tweeted.

The Phillies Struck Gold With Falter’s Rise To The Rotation
Not too shabby for a 25-year-old rookie pitcher.
He only allowed a single run over six innings, and it came on a solo home run by Bryan De La Cruz.
Falter conceded just four hits and no walks over those six frames, striking out four and notching his fifth win of the year.
His ERA is down to 3.80, with a rock-solid 1.15 WHIP.
For years, the Phillies’ ability to produce homegrown stars was very much in question.
While he may not be a star per se, Falter is evidently a legit contributor, and the Phillies deserve credit for giving him the tools to be a successful MLB starter.
He is now a valued member of the rotation, and should be part of the postseason roster once the Phillies officialize their ticket.
The Phillies hit the jackpot with Falter.
