Austin Reaves of the Los Angeles Lakers has become a very popular NBA star in a short amount of time.
Just a few years ago, he was an undrafted prospect whose future in the league looked uncertain.
Now he is a starter alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis and has had many stellar games.
This has led many to claim that Reaves has a legitimate shot at being an All-Star within the next few years.
He was asked about this by Sports Illustrated and said he is more interested in something else: winning.
“I want to win a championship, I want to win a gold medal, I want to win,” Reaves said.
“Winning is really the main thing that everybody should care about. All the accolades that come after that is kind of a bonus,” he added.
It was his own head coach, Darvin Ham, who recently predicted that Reaves would be in an All-Star Game soon.
This came hot on the heels of the 25-year-old re-signing a multi-year deal with the Lakers.
During the next few seasons, LA fans should expect to see a lot more of Reaves because he continues to impress.
In 2022-23, he averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
He bumped that up to 16.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists during the team’s vigorous playoff run.
But the love for Reaves is about more than just his totals on the scoreboard.
The young man is driven and feisty, willing to fight during every possession.
He also has great chemistry with his teammates and is becoming a smart playmaker.
Because of this, he has received more support and belief from James, Ham, and the millions of Lakers fans who cheer for him every time he takes to the floor.
He may be an All-Star soon but Reaves is more focused on winning for himself, his team, and the loyal fans.
