Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker made some history last night, picking up career win No. 2,000 as the Astros took down the Seattle Mariners, 4-0.
It’s no secret that Baker has been a successful manager throughout his many years in the game, having taken many teams deep into October and a few of them to the World Series.
With 2,000 wins under his belt, it seems more and more likely that an enshrinement in Cooperstown is next for Baker.
One Astros writer notes the success Baker has had throughout his many years as a manager, listing the number of wins he accumulated with each team he has managed.
Dusty Baker's 2,000 wins by team
Giants (1993-2002): 840
Cubs (2003-2006): 322
Reds (2008-2013): 509
Nationals (2016-2017): 192
Astros (2020-present): 137— Jake Kaplan (@jakemkaplan) May 4, 2022
This just goes to show how successful Baker has been.
He’s taken several teams from the ground up and turned them into contenders.
He took the San Francisco Giants to the World Series in 2002 and took the Houston Astros there in 2021.
He is no doubt one of the greatest managers the game of baseball has ever known, and more accomplishments are sure to follow.
He has spread his wins out over five different organizations.
One Last Goal Remains
The only thing he is missing is a World Series title.
One would think that would eventually become a formality for a guy like Baker, who is one of the most well-respected men in all of baseball.
Baker knows how to win.
He’s been doing it since 1993.
