The Houston Astros have not skipped a beat since their former star shortstop Carlos Correa bolted for the Minnesota Twins.
They may not have Correa anymore, but they still have plenty of firepower in their lineup, including Alex Bregman, Michael Brantley, Jose Altuve, and Yordan Alvarez.
Speaking of Alvarez, he’s been pretty hot at the plate.
In his first 196 at-bats of the season, he has an OPS of 1.030.
He’s also hitting .311 with 17 home runs and 41 RBI.
Alvarez seems to be headed for an All-Star nod, and the Astros tweeted where he ranks in certain categories, only strengthening their young slugger’s case.

Yordan’s All-Star Case
It would be very hard to imagine Alvarez not being an All-Star in 2022.
Just to rattle off a few stats, he leads American League designated hitters in home runs, OPS, RBI, and slugging percentage.
He’s also been a player of the week in the American League.
Astros fans are surely going to make their voices heard when they vote for the starters in the All-Star Game.
That game will take place at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on July 19.
Alvarez is one of the game’s brightest young stars and has a really bright future.
He’s already been to the World Series twice in his career and he is only in his fourth season in the big leagues.
Alvarez is something else and it’s pretty much just a formality at this point if he ultimately does become an All-Star.
Again, it’s very hard to imagine him not being an All-Star this year.
Fans can most likely expect him to be the starting DH in Los Angeles when the time comes for the All-Star Game.
