Aside from Willson Contreras, Christian Vazquez is the top catcher available on the free agent market.
The veteran was traded to the Houston Astros from the Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline and played a key role in Houston nailing down its second World Series title in six years.
But there may be a team that could be in play for the veteran catcher.
The Chicago Cubs are likely to lose Contreras in free agency.
But according to Astros writer Michael Schwab, the Cubbies appear to have Vazquez on their radar as a backup option.
The Red Sox also have interest in bringing back the two-time World Series champion.
The Cubs are interested in free agent catcher Christian Vazquez if Willson Contreras decides to leave, per people familiar with the matter.
The Red Sox are interested in Vazquez as well.

Cubs, Sox Interested In Vazquez
Vazquez would be a great fallback option for the Cubs if they fail to retain Contreras.
The 32-year-old is certainly a cheaper option, but fits the bill for what the Cubs are looking for.
The veteran hit .274 during the regular season and popped nine home runs in 398 at-bats.
The Red Sox too are an interesting fit.
Vazquez’s familiarity with the organization plays into their favor.
The catcher was a key piece on their 2018 World Series team.
Other teams such as the rival St. Louis Cardinals could be a fit for Vazquez as well.
St. Louis recently lost longtime backstop Yadier Molina, who retired along with Albert Pujols.
Vazquez and Molina also share the same agent.
But the fit would also be seamless in Chicago and in Boston.
With the Winter Meetings approaching, Vazquez may have a new home soon.
