The New York Yankees have a very sticky situation on their hands right now.
Today, it was learned that Scott Effross, who had been acquired at the trade deadline from the Chicago Cubs, would not be on the ALDS roster as a result of an elbow injury that will require Tommy John Surgery.
This news comes just a few days after it was revealed that left-hander Aroldis Chapman would be left off the ALDS roster due to him skipping a team workout and not having a good excuse for doing so, as was said by manager Aaron Boone.
Yankees insider Bryan Hoch tweeted that if Chapman had just shown up to that workout, the hole left by Effross’ injury would be his to fill.
Instead, he skipped it, and his days in Yankee pinstripes are more than likely over.
With the Scott Effross injury, Aroldis Chapman likely would have made the ALDS roster. Instead, his Yankees career is almost certainly over.

You Had One Job
Chapman really blew a great opportunity here.
He hasn’t exactly been himself the past several years, and he wasn’t really any better this year, going 4-4 with a 4.46 ERA in 43 appearances.
Still, the spot likely would have been his if he had just shown up to that workout.
Now, the Yankees are going to have to piece some things together in their bullpen without two key pieces.
The opportunity would have been right there for Chapman.
It would have been just waiting for him and ready to fall into his lap.
But instead, he chose a different path which will likely result in his days as a Yankee coming to an abrupt end this offseason.
The Yankees will go with 12 pitchers on their ALDS roster now.
The timing of each incident couldn’t have been any worse with the red-hot Cleveland Guardians ready to surprise some people.
