The Minnesota Timberwolves have been a disappointment so far this season, as they have a 24-24 record and are in sixth place in the Western Conference.
While more and more people feel last summer’s big trade for All-Star center Rudy Gobert was a big mistake, guard Anthony Edwards is doing his best to take Minnesota back to the playoffs once again.
He had a very strong December, averaging 25.3 points on 46.7 percent overall shooting and 40.6 percent from 3-point range and 5.2 assists per game, and he has continued his onslaught in the new year.
Coming into Saturday’s game against the Houston Rockets, Edwards had been averaging 25.8 points and 5.1 assists per game in his last 19 contests.
Against Houston, he went off, putting up a season-high 44 points on 17-of-29 overall shooting and 8-of-16 from downtown, and he also notched three steals and three blocked shots in the 113-104 win.
He served up two different highlight dunks in that game, and both times his victim was center Alperen Sengun.

Edwards isn’t exactly bashful about sharing how good he is (or at least thinks he is), as he said last summer he would soon be in the conversation for being the best player in the game.
When a player makes a bold statement like that, he has no choice but to back up those words.
Edwards may not be in the conversation for the best in the game just yet, but he has become one of the more explosive young guards in the NBA, and given that he’s just in his third season, perhaps the sky really is the limit for him.
