Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers might often be the biggest man on a basketball court but he doesn’t always like to play like he is.
Davis has never been shy about his resistance to playing as a true center in the NBA, instead preferring to be a power forward.
But with a new coach comes new responsibilities and a new role on the team.
Darvin Ham has suggested that Davis might be performing as the Lakers’ center much more often in 2022-23.
Anthony Davis on how he feels about potentially starting at the 5: "I trust Coach’s decision. I mean, I’m pretty sure he heard AD wants to play the 4, so he knows where I stand, but at the end of the day, I want to win, so if that’s me playing the 5, that’s what it’s got to be."

Davis doesn’t necessarily sound jazzed about this but he’s willing to do it.
“I trust Coach’s decision,” Davis said.
He continued: “I mean, I’m pretty sure he heard AD wants to play the 4, so he knows where I stand, but at the end of the day, I want to win, so if that’s me playing the 5, that’s what it’s got to be.”
If Davis’ career turns around this year as some predict it might, he could be much more open to the idea of playing center often.
Davis Down Low
We aren’t entirely sure why Davis is so opposed to the idea of being the full-time center for the Lakers.
But because of that, the team has rotated through plenty of players to take on that role, including JaVale McGee, Dwight Howard, and even LeBron James.
Followers of the Lakers want Davis to step up and take on the position more often because he can be incredibly effective as a center.
The man has such size and power, especially when he’s been surrounded by multiple opponents.
He is able to swat away the ball, grab rebounds with ease, and shake the rim with dunks.
He’s definitely built to be an excellent center, if he wants to be.
