In mid-June, Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon was placed on the injured list with right wrist inflammation.
It was announced around that time that he would need season-ending surgery to repair the damage.
The Angels had already started their ugly collapse around those days.
Now, LA is 68-86 and has been out of the playoff picture for months.
Despite their current situation in the standings, Rendon could shockingly beat the odds and is actually about to make a return to action before the 2022 expires.
“Anthony Rendon looks like he’s beaten the odds and can return this season after having what was first termed ‘season ending’ wrist surgery. One big advantage if he returns in the next couple days: he can serve his 5-game ban for leaving the bench while on IL and not affect 2023,” MLB insider Jon Heyman tweeted.

His Time With The Angels Has Been Disappointing
Rendon received a five-game ban on June 27, in the brawl between the Angels and the Seattle Mariners.
For the Angels, as they start mapping out the 2023 campaign, having Rendon serve that suspension in 2022 would be significant.
Even before the injury, the veteran infielder hadn’t been performing the way we all know he is capable of.
In 45 games and 188 plate appearances, Rendon is hitting a poor .228/.324/.383.
It’s just a hair better than the .240/.329/.382 line he had last year, also in limited action.
Rendon was well-above average in 2020, with a .915 OPS, but his time with the Angels has been mediocre to say the least.
It’s certainly not what the organization had in mind when they signed him to a seven-year deal worth $245 million after he won the 2019 World Series with the Washington Nationals.
