The San Francisco 49ers have been a common topic for discussion throughout the offseason.
After losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship, many wondered what the team’s next steps were at quarterback.
One question is already answered, as Brock Purdy has been all but named the starter.
The team is now focused on identifying their backup in case Purdy gets reinjured.
In a recent conversation on NFL Total Access, Bridget Condon gave her opinion on the state of the position.
“Everything we’ve seen so far in the preseason points to Sam Darnold getting that QB 2 position,” Cordon said.
Who will be QB2 for the #49ers?

As Cordon points out in her tweet, Darnold has significantly more passing attempts than Trey Lance.
Lance was supposed to be the team’s starter in 2022 but fell to an ankle injury.
Due to Purdy’s success last season, he’s relegated to a backup role, which Cordon believes is behind Darnold.
Lance might have been an interesting prospect, but for the 49ers, having an experienced backup might be their best option.
With less than three weeks to go until the regular season, Kyle Shanahan hasn’t made his final decisions for the depth chart.
Fans are aware of this conundrum Shanahan is facing and are eagerly anticipating a resolution.
Having a viable quarterback in the NFL has proven to be one of the most valuable pieces to an offense.
A serviceable backup is paramount in case something happens to a team’s QB1.
Will Shanahan name Darnold as the backup?
Or, given Lance’s high draft capital for the 49ers, will he be forced to give him that title?
