Free-agent outfielder Juan Soto is currently enjoying his offseason while fielding meetings with MLB’s richest teams and waiting for the offers to roll in from all the teams believed to still be in the mix, including the New York Yankees, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays.
At just 26 years old and after having already accomplished so much, many are wondering what kind of record-breaking contract Soto could receive, with one analyst predicting people will be “shocked.”
On a recent episode of “Foul Territory,” former catcher and current analyst A.J. Pierzynski said, “People are going to be shocked how much he gets and how much is already on the table.”

Shohei Ohtani set the record last season with a $700 million contract that featured plenty of deferred money, but Soto, who is just 26 and has a skill that typically ages well, could potentially land him an even bigger deal.
With five of the biggest spenders all in a bidding war and at least one team in the Mets being open about the fact that they’d essentially hand Soto a blank check and refuse to be outbid, it sounds more and more likely with each passing day that Soto will eclipse $700 million.
Soto is one of the best hitters of his generation, but at this point, his salary might be “shocking” at $750-800 million, which is hard to even fathom.
Even at that price, given Soto’s age, it might not be an overpay for a player like him.
