It’s officially more than a week into August, and superstar guard Damian Lillard is still on the roster for the Portland Trail Blazers, with no trade coming to fruition to send him to the Miami Heat or any other team in the NBA.
Once Lillard made his trade request more than a month ago, the consensus was that it wouldn’t take too long for the Blazers to find a trade partner to send their face of the franchise elsewhere.
Lillard is coming off arguably his best season in the NBA and has shown no signs of slowing down even at 33 years old, which makes him an attractive trade piece on the open market, as he could prove to be the difference for a title-contending team like the Heat.
However, there’s been zero movement on the trade front, with Lillard still not knowing where he might end up playing next season, but John Karalis of the Boston Sports Journal believes the Boston Celtics should get involved as a third or fourth team in a potential Lillard trade, as seen in the tweet below.

After falling short to the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Celtics were motivated to make moves this summer, and going after Tyler Herro as part of this blockbuster trade, as Karalis suggests, might not be a bad idea with the team giving up Malcolm Brogdon in the process.
Karalis believes it would be a smart move by the Celtics front office to at least put it out there that they’re willing to be part of the deal to make it happen with certain assets up for grabs.
The Celtics have already been very active on the trade front, with the storied franchise trading for Kristaps Porzingis while also sending Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies and Grant Williams to the Dallas Mavericks.
If they can add another talented scorer and shooter like Herro, it might be something the team should look into moving forward.
