The first batch of voting has been revealed by the league and there are many familiar and unsurprising choices among the current shortlists.
And then there are a few surprises, including Derrick Rose of the New York Knicks.
Rose is in 9th place in Eastern Conference guards right now, securing 220,229 votes in this first batch.
It has been a very long time since Rose has appeared in an All-Star game but loyal followers of the Knicks have been loving his return to New York.
Right now, Rose is putting up 5.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 39.4% from the field in just 12.9 minutes per game.
Rose has become a fan favorite since coming back to the Big Apple during the 2020-21 season.
His first stint in New York will always be remembered fondly, as he posted 18 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists a game.
This was after his first seven seasons in the league when he played for the Chicago Bulls.
During his second, third, and fourth season, Rose was selected as an All-star but he hasn’t appeared in the big game since then.
Because of his history, his personality, his clutch plays, and what he means to New York, Rose may very well earn a ticket to Salt Lake City next month.
