If there is a right time to try new batting stances, deliveries, throwing motions and leg kicks, among other things, it’s definitely spring training.
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is definitely trying a new throwing style on the bases.
To be completely honest, we are still having a hard time determining if this is serious or another spring training joke.
However, it looks legit and his explanation likely seals the deal for us.
“Haha been practicing this after I saw Rendon do it in Anaheim. Easier to be accurate doing this then trying to guide a softer throw to second base while running full speed to the left,” he tweeted, replying to a Codify Baseball tweet in which they showed a video of Bregman spiking the ball to second base in a quick infield play.

It certainly looks unorthodox, but hey, we have seen stranger things in baseball.
And the results were quite effective: Bregman got the ball to the second baseman with time to spare and without having to contort his body in an awkward way.
We will believe him 100 percent when he does that in regular season games.
Will he?
We are eager to find out.
The third baseman is one of the most important players on the Astros roster.
He just left behind a finger issue and is now featuring in spring training games.
With a career .872 OPS and 140 home runs before turning 30, he has proven his worth both in the regular season and the playoffs.
He is the perfect right-handed complement to the lefty-hitting Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker.
If Houston wins the World Series again, Bregman will likely have a lot to do with it.
