Albert Pujols is now just six home runs shy of 700.
Pujols picked up two hits and hit home run No. 694 last night as the St. Louis Cardinals thrashed the Cincinnati Reds by a final of 13-4.
Pujols hit one out to right field off of Reds pitcher and St. Louis native Ross Detwiler, who the Cards touched for three runs.
Pujols’ home run also moved him ahead of Barry Bonds on the all-time list of most pitchers homered against by one player.
Detwiler had the dubious honor of being the 450th different pitcher that Pujols has hit a home run off of.

Pujols Passes Bonds
You have to be around for a long time if you’re going to hit a home run off of 450 different pitchers.
Pujols can certainly attest to that.
His second half surge has gotten him close to 700 home runs for his career.
Back in early July, when he was hitting just .189 and had only four homers to his name, the thought of 700 home runs seemed like a reach.
Now, he’s just six away from reaching that mark and he’s added another pitcher to his list of victims.
Pujols is on an absolute warpath and looks ready to reach the all-important milestone of 700 home runs with just a month to go in the regular season.
Last night’s home run was No. 15 on the season.
He’s now hitting .277 with 40 RBI and an impressive .883 OPS this year.
There was always a bit more to it than nostalgia when he returned to St. Louis.
He’s there to make history.
He made some last night when he added another pitcher to his list of home run victims.
Now, he sits just six homers away from 700.
