Late last week, the baseball world learned of some sad news.
21-year MLB veteran and Hall of Fame broadcaster Tim McCarver passed away at the age of 81 due to heart failure.
As a player, McCarver spent most of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals.
After his retirement, he became a broadcaster and served alongside St. Louis native Joe Buck for postseason and World Series telecasts.
Following his retirement from FOX Sports, he joined the Cardinals broadcast team, serving as an analyst from 2014-19.
McCarver’s passing had an effect on everybody within the baseball community, especially those associated with the Cardinals.
On Twitter, Adam Wainwright shared a heartfelt note that McCarver had sent him back in 2018, one that the veteran right-hander says still hangs in his locker at his home golf course.
I was saddened to hear that my friend Tim McCarver passed away. Several letters from Mr McCarver that he sent me through the years remain treasures to me. The following note still hangs in my locker at my home golf course. A great man and a great @Cardinals He will be missed. pic.twitter.com/AlyoFcQmz5

Wainwright, much like McCarver, is an integral part of Cardinals history and was close to the Hall of Fame broadcaster.
McCarver was well loved by the Cardinals and their loyal fans and will certainly be missed.
Fortunately, Wainwright has a nice memory of his old friend that he was able to share with his followers on Twitter.
It’s certainly a memory that the two-time World Series champion will cherish forever.
Wainwright was very close to McCarver, as he is with so many greats in the history of Cardinals baseball.
McCarver won two World Series titles with the Cardinals in 1964 and 1967 and was behind the plate for Bob Gibson‘s 17-strikeout performance in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series.
He is also in the Cardinals Hall of Fame and will likely be joined one day by Wainwright.
