Most of Adam Wainwright‘s major accomplishments over the course of his 17-year career have come on the mound.
For example, he has closed out four postseason series, including the 2006 NLCS and World Series, but has also been one of the most reliable pitchers to ever wear the St. Louis Cardinals uniform, with a knack of coming through in big moments and being a stopper when a win is desperately needed.
But some of those accomplishments have come in the batter’s box too.
Not too long ago, pitchers used to hit in the National League, and with his first big-league home run in 2006, he accomplished two interesting feats.

There have been 31 players to hit home runs on the first pitch they ever saw, and 131 players to homer in their first MLB at-bat.
Wainwright did both of these things when he connected for his first big-league home run on May 24, 2006 against the San Francisco Giants.
Of course, with pitchers not hitting anymore in either the American League or National League, it’s quite crazy to think that Wainwright accomplished both of these feats.
But the 41-year-old has seen a lot during his career and has been on hand for some of the craziest moments in baseball history.
He’s won two World Series titles, finished in the top three in Cy Young voting three times, and is also a three-time All-Star.
He even owns a pair of 20-win seasons.
The veteran right-hander will be entering his final season this spring, and he’ll likely be on hand for some more interesting moments in 2023.
