The Green Bay Packers have been making moves to address Davante Adams‘ departure.
They drafted North Dakota State’s Christian Watson in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Then, they signed Sammy Watkins to a one-year contract worth $4 million.
It remains to be seen whether these transactions will help the Packers sustain their winning ways.
But as early as now, reigning Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers is giving his approval.
Aaron Rodgers on signing Sammy Watkins: “I was 100% on board with that. I think it’s important you get guys who have a lot to play for, and I think Sammy has the opportunity to continue & travel down a new path in his career … I love the disposition. I really enjoy the person.” pic.twitter.com/fAX0UWXFIm

The Athletic’s beat writer for the Packers, Matt Schneidman, tweeted, “Aaron Rodgers on signing Sammy Watkins: ‘I was 100% on board with that. Schneidman also shared a video wherein Rodgers said, “I Facetimed him when he [Watkins] signed his contract. I knew that he was somebody we have targeted.”
Rodgers is spot on in saying that Watkins has a lot to play for.
After becoming one of the top prospects in the 2014 NFL Draft, he struggled to live up to the hype.
He has one 1,000-yard season to his name and couldn’t replicate that feat despite getting opportunities with three NFL teams.
Watkins last played for the Baltimore Ravens, finishing with 394 yards and touchdown.
However, there have been moments of brilliance from the former Clemson standout over the years.
He gets to play with one of the most accurate passers in the NFL and that should help him regain some confidence.
If all goes well, Watkins can make Packers fans forget about what they’ve lost during the offseason.
