There may not be a team that believes more in traditions than the New York Yankees.
There is too much history in Yankee Stadium and in the organization as a whole.
That’s why the captain of the Yankees is such an important title.
It means leading the winningest franchise in the history of baseball.
Very few players have had the honor to be captains of the team.
In fact, we can name them, as they are only 15: Clark Griffith, Kid Elberfeld, Willie Keeler, Hal Chase, Frank Chance, Roger Peckinpaugh, Babe Ruth, Everett Scott, Lou Gehrig, Thurman Munson, Graig Nettles, Willie Randolph, Ron Guidry, Don Mattingly, and Derek Jeter.
Jeter was the last one, between 2003 and 2014, the year he retired.
Aaron Judge made his MLB debut in 2016, but truly broke through in 2017.
That year, he was the Rookie of the Year with 52 home runs, and was a deserving candidate to win the MVP award.
Ever since he put on a Yankees uniform, Judge has acted with class, dignity, and an aura of greatness.
He Is A Logical Fit For The Captain Role
He is a very good candidate to be the next Yankees captain.
“It would be an incredible honor,” he said. “I can’t even fathom that, to be honest.”

It’s clear he would love to be honored with such an elegant title.
There is one issue, though: his contract is up after the 2022 season.
The 2022 campaign is the last one of arbitration for Judge, as he is projected to make $17.1 million.
The logical thing to do, for the Yankees, would be signing him to an extension and then hand him the captaincy.
Will Judge be the next Yankees captain?
Only time will tell, but there could news on that front relatively soon.
