The New York Yankees offense is very good now that Aaron Judge is back, but it was tough to watch at times in April and the early stages of May.
Part of the unit’s struggles stem from the fact that Oswaldo Cabrera, trusted with a prominent role after a solid debut in 2022, failed to replicate his form from last year.
The team gave him plenty of chances to right the ship, but in the end, he couldn’t do it.
Now that they find themselves in need of roster spots to bring back rehabbing players for the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.
Manager Aaron Boone discussed the organization’s decision.

This will not be the last we see of Cabrera.
As Boone states, he couldn’t make the necessary adjustments for now.
Other franchises might be able to let their struggling players work through their issues at the MLB level, but not the Yankees.
Fans are way too demanding to endure a struggling players for a few months.
Since the team intends to compete and win, they are sending Cabrera and his .538 OPS to the minors.
He will be back eventually.
For now, the Yankees are welcoming back Giancarlo Stanton, Josh Donaldson, and Tommy Kahnle.
Franchy Cordero and Matt Krook lost their roster spots in the majors in addition to Cabrera.
