LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers is currently leading the league in scoring.

He is averaging 30 points a game and is battling it out with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid for the top-scoring player of the season.

The fact that James is doing this at 37 years old is quite an amazing feat, but it shouldn’t surprise fans.

That’s because years ago, James knew he could achieve the scoring title every single year if he wanted.

Back in 2010, a young James said: “If I wanted to win a scoring title…I could do it every single year.”

If James could have been scoring champ every year why hasn’t he been?

Scoring Doesn’t Mean Winning

Right now, James has only been the league’s scoring champion one time, back in 2008.

He has a very good chance at doing it again this year but some people are wondering why he hasn’t garnered the title during other seasons.

The reason is simple: being a scoring champion doesn’t make your team the best.

This year is a perfect example of that: James might be this season’s scoring champion but his Lakers are still having an atrocious year.

He isn’t looking to just claim titles like scoring champion.

Instead, he’s trying to get his team to the Finals every single year.

Long ago, James realized that scoring the most points might not help get his team into the Finals.

Therefore, he’s been focusing his attention on that goal instead.

And it’s worked quite well for him considering he has won four NBA championships.

He won’t be able to pull that off this year, unfortunately.

Therefore, scoring more points than anybody else in the league will have to be his consolation prize.
