The Indianapolis Colts have dug deep into the market in their pursuit of a new head coach.
Frank Reich was mostly successful during his time with the team, but he couldn’t overcome their never-ending woes at quarterback, eventually losing his job mid-season.
Owner Jim Irsay made one of the most head-scratching and questionable decisions in recent years, bringing in former player Jeff Saturday as their new head coach despite him having zero coaching experience at any level.
So, even though most insiders rumor that Irsay is still sold on Saturday and would love him to stay on board for at least another year, it seems like they’re leaving no stone unturned and will still be quite meticulous in their search for a new boss.
With that in mind, NFL insider Pat Leonard reports that New York Giants defensive coordinator Don Martindale has made a great impression, up to the point that he’s now one of the frontrunners to land the job after the second round of interviews.
A source tells me Giants DC Don Martindale is considered one of the frontrunners for the Colts HC job as Round 2 of interviews comes to a close. But it’s not clear who all Indy intends to include in Round 3, how long it would take & what impact that would have on the process https://t.co/hj3ZqdW3FP

Nonetheless, Leonard also claims that the Colts will go through a third round of interviews, although it’s still unclear how long it will take and who they will consider for the position.
It’s worth noting that the clock is ticking and the Colts could be missing out on some of the best names available, with Sean Payton already committing to the Denver Broncos.
Of course, they shouldn’t rush when it comes to making such a crucial decision, but they may not be able to afford to wait much longer, either.
