According to Jones, Johnson would not be a majority owner in this group, but rather, have a small part in ownership.
Johnson joins countless other athletes who have used their platform and career earnings to re-invest in a sports team.
For example, Aaron Rodgers is in the NFL, but he is also a minority owner of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Will the Commanders be able to turn their team around with new ownership?
The Commanders have made the playoffs twice in the last ten seasons, and have had a winning record in just one season in the last ten years.
Many have pointed to this sale as a turning point for the Commanders, as it has the potential to turn the organization around.
Recently, the Commanders have struggled at the quarterback position, and have been unable to find much stability.
The NFL is a quarterback-centric league.
If the Commanders are able to figure out their quarterback, they might be on track to find sustained success moving forward.
With the 16th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Commanders could seek out a rookie to lead their team.
