The San Francisco 49ers will do everything to sign versatile wide receiver Deebo Samuel to a contract extension.
There’s no way they would let him go after a breakout 2021 season.
Aside from being a reliable target for Jimmy Garoppolo, Samuel is also a key player in former offensive coordinator Mike McDaniels’ run game.
That’s why it is no surprise that the South Carolina alumnus earned a First-Team All-Pro selection last season after finishing with 77 receptions, 1,405 yards, and six rushing touchdowns.
However, he also added eight rushing touchdowns and 365 yards.
Fast forward to the 2022 season, and Samuel is set to miss the 49ers’ offseason workout program.
But while it will take time before he reports to the team, there is no drama between the team and the player because Samuel wanted to stay away from the negotiations for now.
David Lombardi seconded that development.
Of course Deebo Samuel isn't in a rush to sign a deal now. A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf are both also in line for contracts and all three wideouts have the same agent. The early bird in this scenario will likely sign for the least money

The Athletic’s writer for the 49ers tweeted, “Of course, Deebo Samuel isn’t in a rush to sign a deal now. A.J. Brown and D.K. Metcalf are both also in line for contracts, and all three wideouts have the same agent. The early bird in this scenario will likely sign for the least money.”
Samuel, Brown, and Metcalf are represented by CAA Sports.
San Francisco’s wideout is set to earn a base salary of $3,986,000 in the final year of his rookie contract.
Unfortunately, the Niners couldn’t pick up a fifth-year option because he was drafted in the second round.
Samuel Will Stay With The 49ers For A While
Perhaps Samuel would like to ease off a bit after a magnificent season.
His usage rate was high, given that he was a vital fixture on both pass and run plays.
Likewise, both parties have one year to get a deal done, and it’s not like Samuel isn’t happy with the 49ers.
With the market value for wide receivers being established this offseason, San Francisco should offer a deal within that price range.
