On Thursday, the 2020 NFL Draft will begin for many NFL teams.
However, the Indianapolis Colts currently do not have a first-round pick in the draft.
Although Colts general manager Chris Ballard does not want to “force” drafting a quarterback, he will have the chance to trade up and do so on Thursday.
The San Francisco 49ers own two first-round selections:

In addition to getting a glimpse inside John Lynch‘s home war room, Colts fans get the opportunity to see the scene of where a potential Indianapolis future pick originates:
49ers fielding calls on both their first-round picks, No. 13 and No. 31 overall, and are open to dealing either or both picks, per league sources. After 31, 49ers not scheduled to pick again until No. 156 in fifth round. No second-, third- and fourth-round picks. Want more picks.

Without any picks on the second day of the 2020 draft, the 49ers have the 15th-best draft capital, according to Field Yates of ESPN:

Both the Colts (22nd in draft capital) and the 49ers are looking to improve their positions in the upcoming draft.
Although neither team is as worse off as the Bills or Steelers this draft, both Indianapolis and San Francisco could be trading multiple times during the weekend.
Where the Teams Will be Drafting
The defending NFC champions have the same number of picks in the draft as the Colts, but where they are found differs greatly.
The 49ers’ picks are the following:
- Round 1: 13th pick overall
- Round 1: 31st pick overall
- Round 5: 156th pick overall
- Round 5: 176th pick overall
- Round 6: 210th pick overall
- Round 7: 217th pick overall
- Round 7: 245th pick overall
Meanwhile, the Colts’ picks are the following:
- Round 2: 34th pick overall
- Round 2: 44th pick overall
- Round 3: 75th pick overall
- Round 4: 122nd pick overall
- Round 5: 160th pick overall
- Round 6: 193rd pick overall
- Round 6: 197th pick overall
The Colts could have several trade partners throughout the draft, but if the Colts and 49ers make a trade, they could be sending the No. 13 pick back where it came from.
Who Should the Colts Pick with the No. 13 Pick
Just over one month ago in the middle of March, the Colts acquired former 49ers defensive lineman DeForest Buckner in exchange for the No. 13 overall pick.
Frank Reich approved of the trade that boosted team’s defense.
Indianapolis did lose its only first-round selection in the process.
As the draft approaches, the 49ers are fielding calls on the No. 13 selection.
There are many options for the Colts to improve their offense by trading back up to this spot:
- Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert
- Utah State quarterback Jordan Love
- Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy
- Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb
The Colts could also continue to sure up their defense with a selection of South Carolina defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw.
Before the Colts had traded the No. 13 pick, Mel Kiper Jr. projected the Colts to select Kinlaw.
Who Should the Colts Pick with the No. 31 Pick
If the Colts decide to trade for the No. 31 pick instead of No. 13, there are a few more wide receivers they can take a look at:
- Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims
- Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk
- LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson
Mims had multiple 1,000-yard receiving seasons in the Big 12.
Aiyuk was not only an impressive receiver, but he also led the Pac-12 in yards per kick and punt return in 2019.
In the SEC, Jefferson led the NCAA in receptions with 111 last season.
The Colts have the potential to increase their Super Bowl LV odds with this draft.
A rookie wide receiver could be the difference between the Colts finishing at the top of their division instead of being a wild card team.
If the Colts move their way into the first round, there are endless possibilities for this 2020 team that is on the rise.
