3 Young NFL QBs Set For Regression In 2022

Some young quarterbacks had a good 2021 in the NFL.

Others would see a decline in their numbers from past years.

There were also rookies that would impress fans while playing.

However, some rookies would have a disappointing season.

With all the movements in the NFL offseason, there are teams with young quarterbacks for 2022.

These teams have high hopes that these young guns can help them make a playoff run.

When looking at the young quarterbacks of 2022, there are three that could stand to regress for the new season.

3. Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones hasn’t been the same since he first started for the New York Giants.

Ever since his rookie season, his numbers have been declining.

While injuries had a part to play in his 2021 decline, they also can play a part in his continued decline.

Jones hasn’t played a full NFL season without getting injured.

With durability at a premium in the NFL, his injury history could catch up to him.

NFL quarterbacks can only take so many hits before it causes their play to suffer.

However, he can prevent a decline by staying healthy during the season.

That will help his stats and the team.

2. Lamar Jackson

I know this one will be unpopular with the Ravens fans, but here are the facts you need to know.

Lamar Jackson had the second-worst offensive line in 2021, as they gave up 57 sacks for the season.

People crying over the QB! QB isn’t the problem!! 🤦‍♂️
Sacks Allowed
Chicago Bears 58 sacks
Baltimore Ravens 57 sacks
Cincinnati Bengals 55 sacks
New York Jets 53 sacks
Carolina Panthers 52 sacks

That forces Jackson to make plays with his legs and not his arm.

Next, let’s look at Jackson’s passing stats.

2019 marked his best year for passing yards (3,127), touchdowns (36), and interceptions (6).

Each year since then he has thrown more interceptions and fewer touchdowns.

His passing yards are also down since that 2019 season.

However, he had more passing yards in 2021 than he had in 2020 with 2882 yards.

While he could have more passing yards in 2022, he’s shown a steady decline with his other stats.

Also, injuries might play a part in 2022 for him.

An ankle injury would keep him out of the last four games of the 2021 season.

That could come into play with a bad offensive line for this upcoming season.

1. Mac Jones

One of the best rookie quarterbacks from the 2021 draft was Mac Jones.

Not saying that, but it sure helps out development. Mac Jones was seen as the best rookie quarterback this season, and a good amount had to do with the coaching, talent, and offensive line he’s around.

Solid player, but place, coaching, and scheme all matter IMO.

He helped the Patriots make their first playoff appearance since losing Tom Brady in 2020.

However, there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

At first look, his 10-7 record of 3,801 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions look good.

But the hidden truth comes from the teams he faced and how he played against them.

In two games against the Bills, he was 16 for 35 for 164 yards and two interceptions.

Against their other division rival, the Miami Dolphins, he would go 0-2 against them.

He also had a mixed performance against the Colts in a loss.

In that game, he passed for 299 yards and two touchdowns but has two interceptions.

Making it to the playoffs in 2021 now makes the schedule tougher for Jones in 2022.

That will be the main reason he could see some decline in 2022.
