3 Reason The Panthers Should Not Re-Sign Cam Newton

The Carolina Panthers signed Cam Newton during the middle of the 2021 season to a one-year deal.

When they signed him, it was his second chance in Carolina.

However, that second chance didn’t work out so well.

They only signed him because of the injury of their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold.

He is a free agent again after his contract expired.

Carolina fans believe the best quarterback that they can have is Newton.

Others think it’s time for the team to move on from him.

For those people, here are three reasons the Panthers shouldn’t re-sign Newton.

3. Newton Has Declined Because Of Injuries He Suffered In His Career

During his career with Carolina, he battled through many injuries.

Some of those injuries he played through, while others would force him to miss games.

Playing while injured would cause him to have more problems later on in his career.

The human body can only endure so much and he pushed himself to the limit.

Sacks and big hits that he took would tear down his body.

It’s just common sense, they take twice the beating. They take the standard QB shots, and the extra ones for running.

We all saw how the physical game brutalized cam newton’s career and shortened it.

Ankle sprains would turn into ligament tears and shoulder injuries turned into a torn rotator cuff.

These are only a few of the many injuries that he suffered in his NFL career.

They are what caused a steady decline in his on field performance.

If the Panthers want to succeed in 2022, they need a durable quarterback that can lead the team.

2. Bringing Him Back Would Continue To Ruin The Legacy He Built In Carolina

Newton had good seasons in Carolina during his time with them.

One season saw him take the team to a 15-1 record that paved the way for a Super Bowl appearance.

However, the Panthers would lose in the Super Bowl on a costly fumble by Newton in the fourth quarter.

Cam Newton wouldn’t dive on the field for a fumble in the second half of a close Super Bowl but he’ll do a Superman dive face plant for a first down in the first quarter of a preseason game.

Ever since that game, it’s been downhill for him with the Panthers.

In 2019, Newton would lose two games before having his season ended by an injury.

The Panthers would release him in 2020 as he was recovering from that injury.

When they picked him back up in 2021, he lost all five games that he started for the Panthers.

His return to the Panthers only risks him having the losing streak continue.

It would also tarnish the high points he had during his career with the team.

1. Newton Wants To Be On A Championship Bound Team

Newton wants to be on a championship team.

Free-agent QB Cam Newton is drawing interest, but also is remaining patient. “I have teams that are interested in signing me,” Newton texted. “I am waiting on the best fit as it pertains to winning a championship and getting a fair chance to play.”

Carolina is far from ready to make a Super Bowl run anytime soon.

They have a great running back that stays injured more times than his on the field.

Their defense is lackluster, though they tried to address that during the offseason.

Newton also wouldn’t have an elite receiver on the team if they re-signed.

Carolina doesn’t need to waste their time with someone that doesn’t want to be with a losing team.

Until they get the tools Newton would need to take them back to the playoffs; they would be off his list.

That is why it’s best for Carolina and Newton to part ways for good.
