This year’s NFL Draft has the Chicago Bears holding the number one pick overall.
The pick is one that many NFL teams covet, as this year’s draft has some elite quarterbacks.
With teams needing an elite signal caller, some might give up everything to draft the best quarterback in the draft.
While the Bears still hold the number one pick, there are two reasons for them to trade this pick away.
Much Needed Draft Capital
The Bears’ defensive unit needs a rebuild after trades sent Khalil Mack and Roquan Smith to other teams.
With the linebacker and defensive line having a bad season, the Bears need to fix these problems.
Getting draft capital in 2023 can help them with their rebuild.
Holding the first overall pick gives them the highest-valued draft pick, which can net them plenty of additional draft picks.
However, the Bears can’t fall back too far in the draft.
If they fall back too far while getting additional picks, they could miss out on the best defensive players.
Land A Veteran Player
If the Bears want some veteran players, they can use their pick to get some additional veteran talent.

While some trade scenarios can see the Bears getting a player and picks, others might see them getting only one player.
NFL teams that use draft picks to get veteran players can improve their team.
The Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams proved this with their trades in recent years.
The Bears can do the same in 2023 with the first overall pick in their hands.
