Now that the top MLB free-agent shortstop, Trea Turner, is off to Philadelphia, which shortstop will be the next off the board?
This is a deep free-agent class for the position and plenty of teams are still in need.
The top shortstops available are Carlos Correa, Dansby Swanson, and Xander Bogaerts.
All three of those players will see their markets heat up soon.
Here are two MLB teams in desperate need of a shortstop.
St. Louis Cardinals
After a great regular season that saw the St. Louis Cardinals win 93 games, they faltered in the playoffs.
The Cardinals were knocked out in the wild-card round by the Philadelphia Phillies and plenty of questions arose about their roster.
One spot that can be upgraded is shortstop.
The Cardinals got almost nothing out of their shortstops in 2022.
It is time for them to pay up for a star.
St. Louis is expected to be interested in Dansby Swanson to be their next shortstop.

This would be a big move for the Cards if it comes to fruition.
They could use another big bat and Swanson would improve their already elite defense.
Expect to see the Cardinals in the shortstop market until the very end.
Chicago Cubs
Another NL Central team that is ready to make a splash is the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs have been active in the shortstop market all offseason and need a star.
After trading away most of their core the past two seasons, the Cubs are looking for a cornerstone to build around.
The two players they have shown ample interest in are Carlos Correa, and Dansby Swanson.

Correa seems like the type of player that a rebuilding team can build around.
He plays great defense and has been a consistent hitter at the plate.
The Cubs are ready to get back to relevancy and adding a star shortstop would help the cause.
